Yeah, people are always connected.  Always patched into their network.  Which means that social expectations have shifted. If you're doing something (amazing or mundane) - well, it's kind of expected that you post that shit.

Which made me wonder... In this new world, where we're constantly motivated to feed our social networks...  How can we possibly enjoy those precious little moments in our lives when we're disrupting our own enjoyment by holding an iPhone up, taking a picture, and then trying to post it quick?

Ferris: Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Worse yet, your friends could miss it.

You can't take your friends with you, can you?

Yeah, I know.  This ingenious site, which was really cool about a year ago really should be put to bed.  I'm sorry, but I still love it.

I got my hands on the isolated DLR vocals that they must have used to make the DLR microsite.  Made a ringtone for my iPhone.  "God damn it baby you know I ain't lyin, I'm only gonna tell you one time ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"  Love it.

The end of common sense

If I remember 5th grade social studies well enough, good old Ben, key on the kite, Franklin wrote a book called Common Sense.

I'm no Ben Franklin, but I do feel like there's plenty to be said these days about idiocy.  Actually,I wouldn't classify it as idiotic, it's better described as fear.  Yup, I said fear.

Case in point:  This crazy shooting that just went down at Ft. Hood.  It's ridiculous on several levels.

I mean come on!  This freak show was a documented Muslim radical with connections to terrorist supporters.  He doesn't belong in this country yet alone in our armed forces!!!  Believe that.

But some dip shit decided it would probably be better to keep giving this nutter butter government paychecks instead of letting him go on the grounds that he had demonstrated anti-american sentiment.

The only reason I can imagine is that that sort of action would have legal repercussions.

America reaches it's puberty and it becomes a pansy ass?

"Lawsuit?  Fuck it, get this clown outta here - we're the government."  That's big government doing what we need it to.  That's government using it's gut.

At the moment, there are too many leaders in America that are so paralyzed by fear... that they shouldn't be making decisions.  It's costing us lives.

I've moved.

I haven't posted anything in months.

Why?

Because I've been fucking busy.

Busy moving all our shit.

Busy uprooting my family.

Busy with a new gig.

I quit Leo Burnett Chicago in May to take a gig at Wieden + Kennedy in Portland.

It's been a crazy move.  A culture shock in many ways.  And now that the dust is beginning to settle, I've got a grin on my face.

Feels good.  And hopefully, if I can get typepad to work on the old iphone again, I'll start blogging it up.
